Lunchtime Presentations and Conversations

On Tuesday, November 6, a range of topics will be presented for informal conversation and exploration over a boxed lunch. For example, filmmaker Dan Kowalski will screen his inspirational video, Deep Presence—Meditations On a Wild Coast, and facilitate a discussion about how our connection with the natural environment has shaped our human relationships and life choices.

Hal Williamson and Sharon Eakes, authors of Liberating Greatness, the Whole Brain Guide to an Extraordinary Life, will share some amazing recent discoveries in neuroscience. Neurogenesis and self-directed neuroplasticity are ground breaking concepts which expand our understanding of the brain as a system with remarkable capabilities. They will facilitate a conversation about how to harness the power of this system.

Over the last few years several large scale, multistakeholder social change efforts using the U-Process have been launched. One of them was concerned with lowering child malnutrition in part of India and was named Bhavishya (meaning future in Sanskrit). Using this project as a case example, Joe McCarron and LeAnne Grillo of Generon Reos will explore the various phases involved in a “Change Lab,” issues of scale and scope, and discuss challenges, learnings, and successes. Bring your questions!

Teresa Woodland, a Beijing-based leadership development consultant, will lead a conversation about how we can help busy executives and leadership teams develop the ability to fluently integrate systems perspectives into their work. Teresa will draw on stories from her work with a large American company in China.

Members of the University of Wisconsin Extension Service team will host a conversation for others interested in seeing the development of an organizational learning/systems thinking community of practice in Wisconsin, especially among folks who work with nonprofits, local governments, and schools.
